Would it surprise you that each time you go online you give away details about yourself.
Have you ever thought about what you’re giving away? Well its time to stop giving away details about yourself.
Granted it’s tough to not handover information as part of your experience like your personal details when you make online purchases, however most times its not necessary and you really shouldn’t be handing your information over so much.
1. Social media
This is possibly one of the worst offenders when it comes to us handing over our general information. Firstly set your profile to private and don’t accept friend requests from people you don’t know. Do you really need to tell the world you’re not home or your date of birth. Also stop using your Facebook details to log into other websites. Do you really want Facebook to act as your password manager?
2. Do you know what your app permissions are?
You should take the time to stop giving away details about yourself and the permissions in every app you have as they will be default set their permissions to suit their requirements, not yours, and this means allowing the app providers to access as much as possible about you.
Some other steps you can take are but not limited to:
- Use secure browsers or privacy-focused alternatives like Max.
- Install ad blockers and tracker blockers.
- Regularly clear cookies and disable third-party cookies in browser settings.
- Use a Virtual Private Network (VPN) to mask your IP address and encrypt your connection.
- Enable end-to-end encryption for messages and emails.
- Be cautious about sharing personal information and review privacy settings on websites and apps.
